Eclipse SMP Rules

First off, we'd like to thank you for reading our list of rules and guidelines to follow. If you need to reference a specific section of this, using CTRL+F is an easy way to find what you're looking for. It may seem overwhelming, but all of these rules pretty much follow common sense. If you don't think it's a good idea, don't do it.. or ask a staff member's opinion. Staff generally may not and will not ban you for something that isn't on this list, BUT they may issue a final warning for it and have the offence promptly added to the list. Please read the following rules carefully and follow them to the best of your ability.

In-Game Rules


Section 1. Building and Item Related Rules:

1. Griefing
The definition of griefing is modifying or destroying blocks that someone else has placed or building in the area of their creation without their permission. Griefing is a bannable offence and the more you grief the worse your ban will be.

2. Pillars/Scenery Obstruction
Do not build random pillars or otherwise destroy cool scenery on the server. It will probably get removed by a staff member if it's in a popular area. 

3. Lag Generating Structures 
Any structures that have a large redstone current or otherwise laggy-type materials involved, such as a lot of running lava or water should be avoided. If you're keen on building them, at least have a staff member give you the go-ahead first to avoid complications.


4: Towns
You are allowed to build a town anywhere out of the way of others. You can set your own rules as long as they don't override essential server rules such as theft and respect, etc. You have full freedom otherwise. You can apply for a warp for your town on the forums. It's a great way to get involved in the community!

5. Banned Items / Storing Items
TNT is strictly forbidden. Lava buckets are also banned items, unless it's used for furnace purposes. If you'd like lava to be placed for a project, ask a staff member to place it for you. They are nice people and would love to help. Monster eggs are also forbidden, although farm animal eggs are allowed. Also, monster eggs can be used in staff approved minigames.

6. Theft
Stealing from a chest is probably the dumbest way to get yourself banned. I wouldn't suggest it. We have plugins to log who goes in and out and people are going to notice if stuff is missing. Also, if someone dies and you come across their stuff, be a courteous person and give it back to them. It's a great way to earn brownie points with the staff. 


Section 2: Chat Related Rules:

1. Racism/Censorship
Everyone's welcome to Eclipse regardless of their race, sex, sexual preference or otherwise differing qualities that make them human. If you're caught harrassing someone about these things you won't be tolerated. You'll usually get banned, but you may recieve a couple warnings first. I wouldn't count on the warnings, though. You're better off just not being a racist/homophobic/otherwise rude and disrespectful person here. There are plenty of other servers full of those types of people and i'd invite you to go join one of them if you're thinking of acting that way on this one.

2. Chat Etiquette/Respecting Fellow Players
In terms of etiquette anything goes as long as it's PG-13, though if someone asks you politely to stop saying/acting the way you are, it's advised that you listen to them. Ask a Moderator or Advisor to help you settle any player disputes such as this. Generally just treat people with respect and they will probably do the same for you.

3. Advertising/Spamming
Don't advertise other servers. Don't be THAT GUY. Honestly I give my stuff full reign on what to do with you if you do that. Spammers are one of our favourite people to ban. We're pretty quick on our feet and I wouldn't suggest testing to see how quickly you can be banned in that manner.

Section 3: Other Crimes/How to help

1. Ban Evasion
Ban Evasion is basically changing your account or ip address to get around a ban. You're just going to get banned again so save us both the time and effort. Also you've got basically no chance of appealing a ban if you do this, regardless of how much you deserve to be unbanned after.

2. Alternate Accounts
Similar to ban evasion, it's advised that you don't come on multiple accounts UNLESS you make it clear who you are first. If you do that, we have no problems with doing this.

3. Reporting Rule Breakers
If you would like to report someone for breaking the rules, go to the appropriate section of the forums. You're going to need evidence, so if it's chat related, taking screenshots is a solid way to do it. If you've been griefed, you can usually just ask a staff member in game to rollback the griefer. If you'd rather not make it a public thing, feel free to send a private message to an active staff member on the forums, or PM them in game and tell them what's been going on.

4. Reporting Abusive Staff
You'll probably never really need this section seeing as our staff have been hand-picked as the hardest working, most respectful and dedicated people on the server, BUT if you do need to report an abusive staff member, feel free to PM Kevo235. He will deal with the issue in any way he sees fit. You're going to obviously need proof for this too. Unfortunately, to get the problem totally resolved, there is no way to be anonymous about this.


5. PVP
PVP is Player vs. Player. This is not allowed on the server unless you're in world or minigame that allows it. This also includes any way of killing another player. For example, don't dump lava on their head or something.

Section 4: Mods

1. Banned Mods
Xray (a mod to let you see ores)is strictly forbidden, seeing as it's the easiest way to break the economy and such. This includes xray-like texturepacks. Please don't use them, we'll know if you do.
FullBright is a mod that lets you see in the dark. It's obviously not allowed.
Zombe's Client Modifications pack, and other clientside mods are not allowed if they give you an advantage that you wouldn't usually have.


2. Other Mods
Minimaps are allowed, if they're only map-based, and not resourced based, etc. If you need to double check with a staff member about any minimap mods, feel free to do so. It could save you a lot of trouble.
Other Clientside mods are to be determined by staff. Feel free to send a private message to one of the staff members in game to ask them.

Forum/Teamspeak/Skype Rules:

Section 1: Applications/Appeals (Forums only)

1. Applying for Ranks
You can apply for a rank on the forums if you meet the prerequisites for the rank beforehand. For example, if you need to be on for at least 2 months before applying for a rank, don't apply for it if you don't fit the requirements. Follow the instructions given in the application format for the rank.

2. Applying for Towns/Warps
You can apply for Towns or Warps on the forums. Follow the instructions given in the application format for the rank. Keep in mind warps will not be given to everyone, and to establish a town it is recommended that you have a group of people that are interested.

3. Appealing Bans
Generally, you can appeal any ban, unless otherwise posted. Follow the instructions given in the appeal format and make an appeal post. Try to be mature about it, because you'll probably only be given one chance at it. Try to acknowledge that you've done wrong, or if you haven't, give evidence proving that you haven't. Our staff won't ban you without evidence, so keep that in mind when appealing.

Section 2: Chat Related

1. Racism/Censorship
It's the exact same as the in-game version. Go check it now if you have questions.

2. Community Friendly Guidelines
Generally for teamspeak or skype, don't break the PG-13 guideline, unless everyone involved gives you permission to do so. You MUST ask everyone in the channel (if teamspeak) or group chat (if skype). If you're found to be breaking this rule, you'll have a lot of explaining to do to dodge a ban, as this is not tolerated.

3. Advertising/Spamming
Same as the in-game version. Go check it now if you have questions.

4. Harassment
Do not harass anyone else, even if it's outside of the game/forums/teamspeak setting. Even if you do something that isn't related to the server based on harassing another member of the server, you can still be punished. Just generally don't be THAT GUY.
